Dating

Get There Early. Then Do Nothing.

The ten minutes before a first date do more damage than the date itself. A small routine fixes it.

Nerves before a first date are not the problem. Arriving in the state nerves put you in is the problem — slightly rushed, slightly breathless, still half in the day you just came from. You then spend the first twenty minutes catching up with yourself.

The fix is boring and it works. Get there ten minutes early and do nothing with them.

Not scrolling — that's not nothing, that's a different kind of busy, and you'll walk in with your head somewhere else. Sit down. Order something. Look out of the window. Let your breathing come back down. If you're outside, walk one slow lap of the block.

Ten minutes of genuinely doing nothing is the cheapest preparation there is.

What you're buying is the difference between arriving and having already arrived. It sounds like a small distinction. It's most of the first impression.

And if they're late, you're already settled instead of standing outside checking your phone, which is the other half of why this works.
